Radicalization

Radicalization refers to the process by which individuals or groups adopt extreme political, social, or religious ideologies that deviate significantly from mainstream beliefs. This process can lead to the justification of violence or other forms of activism in pursuit of these extreme beliefs. Radicalization often occurs in response to perceived grievances, identity crises, or social marginalization and can be influenced by various factors, including personal experiences, social networks, and propaganda. It is particularly discussed in the context of political extremism and terrorism, as some individuals may ultimately be driven to engage in violent behavior motivated by their radicalized beliefs. The study of radicalization seeks to understand the pathways individuals take towards adopting such ideologies and how to prevent or counteract these processes.
